  Physics Tip

potential energy
Potential energy is the energy possessed by an object because of its height above the ground. The amount of potential energy possessed by an object depends on its mass and its height. A roller coaster car is initially hauled by a motor and chain system to the top of a tall hill, giving it a large quantity of potential energy.

  Physics Quote

It is not uncommon for engineers to accept the reality of phenomena that
are not yet understood, as it is very common for physicists to disbelieve
the reality of phenomena that seem to contradict contemporary beliefs of
physics - H. Bauer

Astronomy and Online Telescopes

If you are interested in astronomy, you are among a good crowd. There are thousands of people the world over who spend hours on end learning as much as they can about this subject. But if you are new to astronomy, there are many ways that you can get involved before a blink of an eye. One of the newest fads is online telescopes. If you have never heard of these you are not alone. But just because online telescopes are relatively new does not mean that they have nothing to offer.

Once you understand what you are doing, the actual process of using an online telescope is quite simple. In fact, when you have a better understanding of this you will be able to view stars and planets in no time at all. The first thing that you must do is make a request to an observatory that offers online telescopes. This is known as scheduling an event, and in most cases you can do this easily enough with a quick email.

Now that the observatory knows what you want to see, a camera attached to a telescope will record the event that you scheduled. From there, the video will be placed live on the web, and a link to it will be sent to you via email. The last step is clicking on the link, and actually viewing what you scheduled. As you can see, online telescopes are not hard to understand. And once you become familiar with the process you will be well on your way to viewing any planet or star that is within reach.

When it comes down to it, viewing planets and stars through an online telescope can be tons of fun. And of course, it is also educational. So if you do not have your own telescope, you may want to consider looking into this option. This is a great activity for anybody who is interested in astronomy.
